more south dakota, wyoming, montana

Thursday- june 21st

Got up early and packed up the trailer and then took the truck on a scenic drive along Route 16A that wound through the Black Hills National Forest. The road took us over pigtail bridges (wooden bridges) and through narrow one lane tunnels through the immense boulders on the mountains. Headed back to the campground, hooked up the trailer and off to our next destination: Montana. En route to Montana we had to go through Wyoming, so we stopped at Devils Tower National Monument and then on to our campground in Billings, MT. Tomorrow we are off to Bozeman, MT and then on to Yellowstone.

Wednesday- june 2oth

Woke up early and made our way over to Wall Drug the “famous” drug/general store and biggest attraction in Wall, SD (they had signs advertising the place for over a hundred miles before reaching it). Spent a few hours there shopping, exploring, before getting lunch and heading to Badlands National Park. Drove through the Badlands stopping at several scenic overlooks and caught glimpses of bison, deer, and lots of prairie dogs along the way. After the Badlands it was on to Keystone, SD and Mt. Rushmore. Arrived at KOA Mt. Rushmore campground in the afternoon set up camp and then headed over to Mt. Rushmore. We walked along the Presidential Trail that went by the foot of the mountain and stayed for the lighting of the monument.
